Few dejected, few hopeful; this is Delhi University!

Admission process for the first cutoff in the Delhi University ended Monday with at least 22.5% seats for undergraduate courses have been filled so far by Sunday.

Miranda House saw the maximum number of admissions on first two days with BA (Honours) Political Science being the first choice, a media report suggests.

Hindu, Hansraj, Stephens, SRCC, Ramjas…. are few colleges every student seeks admission to for undergraduate courses. With second cut-off to be out by Wednesday, RastaAurBasta went to DU’s North Campus and met some students to know their choices and miseries.

Some anxious and some upset faces marked the last day of admissions for first cut off. Vinayak from Chittorgarh in Rajasthan scored 97.4% and has applied for BA (Honours) English in politically charged Ramjas College. “I am still waiting for confirmation as they have taken more students than the designated seats for the course. Let’s see”, he said while having lunch at Ramjas Canteen with his father.

In between all the problems and clutter that he faced while taking admission at Hansraj, Brijendra is finally happy that he made it. “Initially, there was some problem related to different spellings on different documents of my father. But my brother helped me out in solving it” said Brijendra who hails from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

On being asked about the course applied, he said, “I scored 86.75% in 10+2 and as already decided; I applied for BA (Honours) Hindi. I am really happy!”

Walking out with his younger brother, Anant will also be part of new batch at Hansraj. “I am from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. I scored 93.6% and my seat for Physical Science has been confirmed” he said while stressing about the smooth admission process. “Koi dikkat nahi huihe said.

Few kilometers away near SRCC’s gate number 1, stands Anuj Aggarwal at an eatery outlet. Seeking admission in B.Sc. Bio Chemistry or Life Sciences, he said, “Particularly I have no choice for college like everyone may have. But my score is low and I am waiting. I hope I will make it in second or third cut off.”

Refreshing his mind in this scorching heat at the Mother Dairy booth outside Arts Faculty, Ritik is dejected yet hopeful. “I just missed out of 0.25 percentile for BA (Honours) Political Science at Hindu College. But I am sure I’ll make it in second list” said Ritik who resides from Haryana.

There were few technical glitches and confusion reported in last few days related to students from Tamil Nadu using ‘Selvi’ and ‘Thiru’ as prefix before names to denote ‘Ms.’ or ‘Mr.’
Students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were denied admission due to confusion over conversion of grades to marks.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the Andhra Pradesh government has asked Delhi University to accept newly released marks of their state board students, as opposed to CGPA, and extend the last date for taking admission against the first cut-off list by two days.
